WUJA Congress 2017 – Information Bulletin (May)

I sit at my desk in great anticipation of an amazing event that will occur in Cleveland at the end of June this year.  As you know, we will be hosting the next World Union of Jesuit Alumni Congress for the first time in the United States.

We have a wonderful program prepared for you that will involve a host of inspirational speakers and exciting things to do.  But for me personally, I look forward to meeting each of you who will be traveling from the far corners of the world.  You will be bringing stories to share about our common bond with the Society of Jesus.

While I treasure my eight years of Jesuit education, my most meaningful connection with the Jesuits is the association I have every week with the homeless at a warming center, housed in Jesuit church in Detroit.  My stories will be about them.  So, when you meet me, please ask about them.

About the event itself, we are very excited about the speakers and events we have lined up.   One highlight will be a live video feed from Rome with the Superior General of the Society of Jesus.   He has indicated his desire to engage in an active question and answer session with us after his remarks.   Other speakers include Father Jim Martin, a noted guest on national TV; Father Greg Boyle, founder of Homeboys Industries and noted author; Father Tim Kesicki, president of the Jesuit Conference for the U.S. and Canada; and Chris Lowney, author of several books including Pope Francis: Why He Leads the Way He Leads.

And fun stuff to do!   Cleveland, as many of you know, is the home of the famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  We have a night set aside especially for that.  Have you ever been to a professional baseball game?  Well here’s your chance.  A night set aside for that as well.  One of the highlights of the week is the opportunity to attend the premier of an oratorio dedicated to our Congress and inspired by Ignatian spirituality.

But I sincerely go back to what I said above.  Most importantl will be the opportunity to meet each other, drink coffee together, share stories, exchange contact information, be inspired together, and pray together.

Please join us if you can.   Visit our website and learn more about this wonderful gathering of Jesuit alumni and friends.  And note on the registration page the opportunity to request financial assistance if needed.

God bless you all.
