A Message from Our President: Francisco Guarner
Dear friends of the great WUJA family,
It is a great privilege to address these first words to you as President, on the launch of this newsletter, a symbol of the vitality and unity we strive to uphold.
The education we received in Ignatian institutions is a gift we carry forever in our hearts. It taught us to pursue excellence, not for personal gain, but for the common good; to be “persons for and with others.” WUJA exists to empower this spirit, so that, together as a global network, we can be a force for positive change for greater than the sum of our individual efforts.
This newsletter will be a key tool to strengthen the global alumni network and to remind us that we are a lifelong partner in mission. It will serve as our window to the world: a space to learn from the best practices of Jesuit alumni unions around the globe, to draw inspiration from service initiatives and, above all, to reaffirm that we are not alone in this endeavor.
Two very meaningful reasons have prompted us to launch this first edition of WUJA Newsletter now:
First, to express our heartfelt recognition and gratitude to Carlos Acutis, a young Jesuit alumnus, recently canonized, for the example that despite his short life he has given us in his values and dedication to others.
Second, to share with you the exciting journey that lies ahead: the 11th WUJA World Congress, which will take place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from July 29 to August 2, 2026.
I invite each of you to take an active role in this journey. I extend my most cordial welcome to you and express my sincere hope that, together, we will make WUJA a beacon of hope, service, and meaningful action.
Warmly,
Francisco Guarner,
President, World Union of Jesuit Alumni (WUJA)
